After you take the three deep breaths and as your eyes are still closed, assess your body. Again, do not look around or even use your hands. Simply sense where you are carrying tension in your body. Do you feel it in your shoulders? Are you carrying it in your neck? Wherever you are holding in the tension, it is essential to locate the tension.

Step 3. Ask Three Simple Questions

Once you know where the tension in your body is located, you will ask yourself three questions:

  • What is the form of the tension?
  • What is the scale of the tension?
  • What hue is the tension?

These imploring questions help you to visualize the tension more clearly, which will enable you to enact the fourth step better.

Step 4. Sit & Shrink

Take 2-3 minutes to sit still and silently. As you sit in a state of calmness, mentally picture the tension shrinking. One great way to help the tension grow smaller is to remember all the blessings in your life for which you are grateful.
