While some look forward to watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade on tv with a cup of coffee, filling their plates with turkey, dressing, and green bean casserole for Thanksgiving dinner, and then falling asleep on the couch as they are surrounded by loved ones watching the football game. There are others who look forward to the clock striking 12, ending Thanksgiving Day and welcoming in Black Friday. Black Friday has almost become a big a tradition as carving the turkey itself. It’s the thrill of the hunt for the best sales on potential Christmas gifts. If you are planning to shop on Black Friday, make sure you have a plan. Here are things Penny Pinchin’ Mom says you should check when you shop on Black Friday.

Have A List

Before you head out to shop on Black Friday, go in with a list of the items you want or need to get for Christmas. Do not just show up and buy one of everything just because it’s on sale. You will overwhelm yourself. Set a budget and know what you plan to get on Black Friday.

Plan Out Your Shopping Trip

Once you know what you want to purchase, decide which stores you are going to visit on Black Friday and the route you will take to get there. See if there is a shopping mall or shopping center that has several of the stores you plan to visit in close proximity to one another. Know which stores open at what time and schedule when you will be at each store and for how long.

Review Ads & Have Them in Hand When Shopping

After you know what it is you want to buy and where you are going to buy it, look to see if those stores have any ads with specific deals for the items you want. Be sure to bring the ads with you when you shop. Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of Black Friday, deals may not ring up correctly. Having the ads with you, will ensure that you receive the best price.

Divide & Conquer

Black Friday cannot be a solo gig. You need to bring a troop. When you know how many stores you plan to visit, you can have multiple pairs of people going to different stores getting the items on your list. This is also part of the fun of Black Friday. Having family and friends work together to find the best deals can create wonderful memories to talk about for years to come over future Thanksgiving dinners.

Be Patient

Good things come to those who wait, and those who shop on Black Friday know that you will have to wait. There will lines to get into the store, so you want to get there early while it is still dark out. As you wait for the stores to open set up camp chairs, bring the cocoa, and play games with your loved ones.
